Hayaco provides digital interpretation for UN summit in Seoul

KOREA: The Fourth UN World Summit of Prosecutors General, Attorneys General and Chief Prosecutors recently took place at the Coex Convention Centre in Seoul, using a digital interpretation system from Hayaco. The event follows the use of Hayaco systems in the 2010 G20 summit, which also took place in the South Korean capital.

Running from June 30th to July 1st and hosted by the Supreme Prosecutors' Office of the Republic of Korea, the summit was held in Hall D of the Coex complex and attended by approximately 400 delegates from over 107 countries alongside organisations including the United Nations and International Criminal Court. South Korean president Lee Myung-bak led the proceedings, which were reported on by 500 members of the press.

According to Hayaco’s Korea-based worldwide distributor, JSCorporation, the summit saw the manufacturer design a new 16-language simultaneous interpretation solution having learned from its experiences at the G20 a year before. The completed system saw two HAD-240G antennas and HDS-240G boosters installed to the left and right of the rear of the hall, while HDR-240G receivers were used by delegates.

Security has been cited as the principle reason for the choice of the Hayaco system. The manufacturer used the 2.4GHz PicoCast short-range wireless communication service to provide a three-way security code that protected sensitive data from interception.
