Helen Meyer receives Women in AV Award

WORLD: Helen Meyer, executive vice president of Meyer Sound, has been named as the recipient of InfoComm’s 2011 Women in A/V Award. Mrs Meyer, who co-founded Meyer Sound in 1979 with her husband John Meyer, accepted the award with Erin Bolton from Pivot Communications, who also received a Women in A/V award at the Portland ceremony.

Mrs Meyer received the award in acknowledgement for her strong entrepreneurial spirit and excellence in technology management. In her role as executive vice president at Meyer Sound, Mrs Meyer is responsible for the operations, sales, and marketing, as well as the long-term growth strategies of the company.

Randal A Lemke – executive director and CEO of InfoComm International – spoke about the reasons behind naming Mrs Meyer as the recipient of the award, saying that the Meyer Sound co-founder had ‘transformed the audiovisual industry’ by being devoted to the user experience. ‘She has enhanced the enjoyment of audiences around the world by ensuring that Meyer Sound is developing products devoted to pure sound and intelligibility,’ he explained.

Mrs Meyer described it as ‘a great honour’ to be recognised by InfoComm. ‘When we first started the company 32 years ago, John and I never expected to be where we are today, working alongside so many creative and talented industry professionals, many of whom have become good friends of ours,’ she said fondly. ‘I am proud to share this acknowledgement with everyone in our extended family, from our employees, to our customers around the world, for their ongoing support and inspiration,’ she concluded.

Mrs Meyer’s contributions to the A/V have been recognised before, as she has received numerous awards – two of which being a Citation from the Audio Engineering Society and a Woman of Distinction award received from the East Bay Business Times. Honours shared with Mr Meyer include the MIPA Lifetime Achievement Award and the USITT Harold Burris-Meyer Distinguished Career in Sound Award.
