Historic Indian theatre opts for Tannoy

INDIA: The recently restored Gaitey Theatre in Himachal Pradesh, India has benefitted from a Tannoy QFlex steerable array system installation. The 124-year-old 320-seat theatre required a system that would be in-keeping with the building’s Victorian aesthetics.
Audiovisual specialist M/S Godrej was approached to recommend the venue’s new sound system, and bearing in mind the architectural requirements for the heritage building, proposed a solution based around Tannoy's QFlex digitally steerable array loudspeaker range.
Two QFlex 24s, two VS18DR subs and two V8 sound reinforcement loudspeakers were selected to handle full range coverage and in-fill where required. The theatre now features a Biamp Nexia digital signal processor for signal routing, as well as mixing consoles from Yamaha. QSC amplifiers power the Tannoy V8s and VS subs.
‘We proposed this solution because we knew the quality of Tannoy loudspeakers, and had experience of just how effective QFlex can be in terms of intelligibility,’ commented M/S Godrej’s Mr Haider. ‘I’m glad to say that the user and performers find it a fantastic system for their performances, as it gives a uniform coverage in the auditorium,’ he enthused.
Since opening in 1887, theatre personalities such as Rudyard Kipling, Baden Powel, KL Sehgal, Prithviraj Kapoor, Balraj Sahni, and Manohar Singh have taken to the Gaitey stage, which was designed by architect Henry Irwin.
