Honeysuckle Hotel gets the Electro-Voice treatment

AUSTRALIA: Noisebox Entertainment Systems recently installed an Electro-Voice sound reinforcement system into the heritage-listed Honeysuckle Hotel in Lee Wharf C, Newcastle, which overlooks the harbour. The brief called for a ‘theatre-like’ system that could provide a consistent level of sound with minimal leakage for a large open space.
The building’s heritage-listed status presented Noisebox Entertainment Systems with a number of challenges regarding speaker placement and in addition to this the local council imposed various noise pollution restrictions due to residential zoning laws that the hotel had to abide by. Also, being a federation style wharf shed, the team had no floor access for the installation and needed to consider the potential for salt corrosion for all electrical components due to its close proximity to the harbour.
Noisebox Entertainment Systems found a suitable solution in a combination of Electro-Voice’s Vari Intense EVI-15 speakers, Evid EV 3.2T and 4.2T surface mount units and ZX1i speakers. A CPS4.10 amplifier powers the Vari Intense speakers, a Dynacord PCL 1245 amplifier drives the ZX1is, whilst a Dynacord Paramus powers the remaining equipment. Meanwhile, digital management is taken care of by an Electro-Voice NetMax system.
‘The system was selected because it not only fits within all the boundaries imposed on the heritage-listed warehouse, but because the unusual shape of the model achieved the desired effect for the space within the budget constraints set by the client,’ said an Electro-Voice representative.
‘We are exceptionally happy with the quality of the products provided, and would definitely look at using Bosch again in the future,’ said Robyn Gumbley, project manager for the Laundy Group, of which the hotel is part.
