Hong Kong boutique hotel opts for Symetrix

CHINA: A Symetrix Jupiter 8 processor has been installed into a 100 year old former police station turned boutique hotel located in the fishing village of Tai O, on the west coast of Lantau Island, Hong Kong. The processor is at the heart of a new sound system within the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, Tai O Lookout, which sits atop the building offering views over the village.

Designed by Sound Classy Holding Limited, the new installation includes Fulcrum Acoustics Prophile series P loudspeakers, chosen for their discrete impact on the building’s aesthetics, plus the Symetrix Jupiter 8 turnkey signal processor and a Symetrix ARC-2e user interface. Sound Classy worked directly with Sanecore Audio Ltd, Symetrix’s distributor in Hong Kong, during the project.

The system – installed by South China House of Technology (SCHOT) Ltd – is intended to be as intuitive as possible, enabling restaurant staff to operate it. Nevertheless, the processor had to be capable of properly implementing the FIR filters needed for the Fulcrum Acoustics enclosures. The installation covers the entire Tai O Lookout restaurant plus the adjoining outdoor balcony.

A number of wireless microphones join a CD player and an iPod docking station at the input side of the Jupiter 8, which accepts both mic- and line-level signals. Australian Monitor XA Series amplifiers power the distributed loudspeaker system.

Crucially, the install also made use of the ‘app’ based approach of Symetrix’s Jupiter series. Each processor within the range possess a design topology inspired by Smartphone apps, with users able to upload whichever ‘app’ is most appropriate to their requirements.

For Tai O Lookout, Sound Classy specified the ‘Sound Reinforcement 10’ app, which possessed all of the necessary routing logic necessary and signal processing (including FIR filters) for the venue. The addition of the ARC-2e wall panel remote allows restaurant staff to select the input and to adjust volumes within the different zones.

‘No other processor is so easy to set up, so great sounding, and so affordable as the Symetrix Jupiter,’ gushed Him Chan, system designer at Sound Classy. ‘Not only was it simple to find and install the correct app, it was easy to dial in the correct settings on the FIR filters. The hotel owners and the restaurant staff are very happy with the sound and its operation.’
