INDIA: A recent concert by Sonu Nigam in Bangalore’s Chinnaswamy Stadium saw an L-Acoustics rig help to mark the opening of the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL). Drawing famous faces from India’s thriving film industry to compete against one another, the CCL is intended to raise awareness of film piracy whilst adding glamour to the official conclusion of the Indian Premier League.
Starting in Bangalore on June 4th and concluding in Hyderabad on June 12th, the CCL saw film stars from each of India’s key movie-making regions – Tollywood, Kollywood, Sandalwood and Bollywood – form teams to play short Twenty20-format matches.
Among the competitors were the Telugu Warriors, led by Tollywood star Venkatesh and owned by Vishnu Manchu; Sohail Khan Entertainment’s Mumbai Heroes, captained by Suniel Shetty; the Chennai Rhinos, led by Tamil superstar Suriya; and the Karnataka Bulldozers, led by Sudeep. The final saw the Chennai Rhinos win out over the Karnataka Bulldozers.
Before the matches got underway, however, the Sonu Nigam concert saw 1,200 folk dancers perform alongside the singer and his elaborate band, with J Davis Prosound & Lighting providing an S Kumar designed rig comprised of V-Dosc and Arcs enclosures. For front of house sound, three V-Dosc enclosures were stacked per-side with low end courtesy of two SB218 subs, all driven by LA 48a amplifiers and controlled by Dolby Lake Processor.
On-stage sound meanwhile was courtesy of Martin Audio LE 1500 wedge monitors plus Sennheiser IEMs. Both Sennheiser and Shure microphones were used, plus XTA DS 800 active splitters and an Avid SC 48 console.
The lighting design – programmed by P Kumar – comprised Clay Paky Alpha Spots 1200, PR Lighting Beams, LED Moving Head Washes, and 3W LED Pars suspended from the roof of the stadium. An Avolites Pearl Expert was deployed for control.
