Jakarta’s Soundworks adds Energia to J-Pop

INDONESIA: Jakarta-based rental company Soundworks recently used its newly acquired Adamson E-Series line array for a joint performance by Tokyo girl group AKB48 and its Indonesian sister band JKT48. The concert took place at Jakarta venue The Kasablanka, and prompted JKT48 producer Fay Ismail to declare that the event boasted ‘the best sound that we have ever had by far’. The event was one of the first uses of Soundworks’ Adamson rig since the company became the latest addition to the E-Series network, taking delivery of 24 E15 enclosures and 16 T21 subs.
Established in 2012 as an audio specialist catering for a wide variety of events and productions, Soundworks reportedly opted to acquire the E-Series rig after hearing Linkin Park perform through the system in Jakarta.
‘We were looking for a large format line array to complete our arsenal when we saw the Linkin Park Concert in Jakarta with the new E-Series loudspeakers and it was the best sounding concert we had ever heard,’ declared senior sound engineer Rio Felani. ‘We started to research the PA and we were very impressed with what we found. When we were able to make the move to acquire the E-Series system we did it.’
Alongside the AKB48 and JKT48 concert, Soundworks has so far used its system for artists including David Foster, Peter Cetera, and Tommy Page, plus special events such as the Indonesian Music Awards, Yahoo OMG Awards and Lasem the Musical.
Following the Peter Cetera concert, the artist’s FOH engineer, Cowboy Keith Thompson, commented, ‘I was happy to see the Adamson E15 rig when I walked into the venue in Jakarta. The local crew had hung and tuned the PA well. The coverage was solid from the front row, all the way to the back of the theatre. The high-mids were tight and had a great warm tone for Peter's vocals.’
‘The clarity and headroom with the E-Series PA is just amazing,’ enthused Pongky Prasetyo, managing director of Soundworks, ‘and the lower octave harmonics with the T21 subs make lower note articulation sound better. This system is perfect for us and it will help us grow.’
