Justin Bieber tour turns to DAS in Jakarta

INDONESIA: A DAS Audio sound reinforcement system was recently used for a Justin Bieber concert in Jakarta, which took place as part of the Asian leg of the pop star’s current world tour. The system, comprising Aero and Aero Series 2 enclosures, was supplied by regional rental company Don Sistem Suara (DSS).

Justin Bieber has performed a number of concerts throughout Asia in recent months, as previously reported by Pro Audio Asia. The Jakarta performance took place at the Sentul International Convention Center (SICC), Indonesia’s largest indoor concert facility boasting a capacity of 11,000 people. DSS was contracted to provide the sound system by the event’s promoter, Berlian Entertainment.

Describing the SICC as ‘a challenging acoustic environment’, DSS deployed 32 Aero-38 three-way line array elements flown in four clusters of eight enclosures each. Two were positioned at the left and right of the stage as front of house mains, while the remaining two were flown at the extreme sides of the venue as out-fills. Donny Hardono, owner of DSS, explained: ‘Due to the specific characteristics of this venue, we used outfield speakers to provide greater horizontal coverage. This arrangement enabled us to accommodate the right and left outer wings of the audience.’

A further 18 Aero 12A enclosures were also used for left and right side-fills as well as the centre-fill, arranged in three clusters of six elements each. Loudspeaker processing was via two DAS DSP-4080 processors and one DAS DSP-2060.

‘We had plenty of low frequency support for this event as well as an impressive stage monitor setup,’ continued Mr Hardono. ‘We used a total of 18 DAS LX-218A powered subwoofers. These were ground stacked with nine enclosures on the left and another nine on the right. For onstage monitoring, we placed 12 Avant 12A powered, two-way enclosures and two additional LX218A subwoofers for side-fills, with one enclosure per side.’

According to DSS, the design was well received, with FOH engineer Gordon Mack exclaiming ‘we’re all ready to rock baby!’ after walking around the venue. ‘We’ve received numerous compliments,’ added Mr Hardono. ‘The system performed perfectly and the result was one very satisfying concert.’ DSS also recently provided a similar DAS system for an SICC Kylie Minogue concert.
