CHINA: A TW Audio sound reinforcement system and a Soundcraft Si2 console have been installed into the 600 sq-m live theatre of Hubei Jingzhou Television (JZTV), to assist in the production of music-based programming in front of studio audiences. The system was supplied by Guangzhou Ruisheng Light & Musical Acoustics System Co.
Broadcasting to Hunan and Hubei with a signal that covers 28 counties and towns, JZTV was founded in 1973, becoming one of the first established city-based television stations on the Chinese mainland. It regularly receives audiences of approximately 2.5 million viewers. While the rising popularity of music-based variety shows has spurred on the purchase of the TW Audio system, the theatre in which it is now installs also hosts a broad range of programming including talk shows, meaning the front of house system had to flexible. The combination of TW Audio and Soundcraft was reportedly reached after a lengthy selection process.
The complete reinforcement system comprises the German manufacturer’s Vera 10 line array as the main FOH system, plus M12 full-bandwidth enclosures for side-fill, four S30 subwoofers for low-end, and a further four M12 loudspeakers for monitoring. Three Powersoft KSDSP amplifiers are used to drive the installation.
JZTV chief technician Mr Fan was quick to explain how important the theatre is to the television station: ‘In this hall we host the live broadcast and recording of our program Jiang Han Feng, and audience interaction is frequent. We concern ourselves greatly with the sound delivered to audiences.’
Meanwhile, the theatre’s sound engineer Mr Cai, praised the system, identifying ‘high technology’ as the reason for the selection of TW Audio. He was also enthusiastic regarding the Si2 mixing desk. ‘I like it so much. The most important thing is that I only spent two hours familiarising myself with the Si2 – it is very simple.’
Adding a final word was Ruisheng project manager Wang Zicheng: ‘The technical team of JZTV experienced the performance of the TW Audio Vera 10 line array during a local commonwealth concert in November 2010,’ he explained. ‘They were impressed by its compact size and strong SPL.’
