K-Array’s versatility aids the World Music Shanghai Festival

CHINA: Taking place at six different locations over six days, the World Music Shanghai Festival recently celebrated its fifth edition. Organisers H+M Communications chose artists from around the world to play at a mixture of indoor and outdoor venues with crowds ranging from 500 to 3,000 people.
Sennheiser China supported the event, supplying all the audio equipment used on the stages, except backline, and a team of 10 technicians and sound designers from tech partner Real Live. As part of this commitment, the company supplied K-Array speakers to cover concerts from the Gangbe Brass Band of Benin, the Nadara Gypsy Band, the Haya Band from Mongolia, Indian group Pandit Keshav Talegaonkar, and Sounds from Yunnan.
Due to the very different performance locations, equipment capable of being adapted to the specific needs of each location were chosen: the Century Square outdoor arena was equipped with 12 KH15s, plus four KO70s for bass support and two KR402s for side-fill.
The Shanghai Concert Hall saw two KR402 and KR202 systems put to use, with the KR202s as side-fill and front-fill. In all the other locations a KR402 was the system of choice, with a KR202 as side-fill.
One of the important elements of the selection of K-Array was the speed of setting up and taking down the systems, and the ease in aligning and managing the systems. This reportedly made it possible to prepare the various locations quickly leaving the sound engineers free to concentrate on the music.
