Kairos Multijaya provides audio for Kalila Adventure

INDONESIA: Kairos Multijaya was recently called upon to provide the audio solution for Ancol Dreamland’s Kalila Adventure animatronics theatre.

Since opening in 1966, Ancol Dreamland in north Jakarta has gone on to become the largest integrated tourism area in south east Asia. The theme park incorporates 27 rides at Fantasy World, including a twisted roller coaster and various Niagara flume rides. Located amidst these rides, the Kalila Adventure theatre hosts a state of the art puppet show, although owing to the recent floods, temporarily shows a 3D animation film show in its place. Less spectacular perhaps to the incoming visitor, the theatre is packed with A/V technology and effects, which stimulate the senses during hourly screenings.

Kairos Multijaya installed a unique system that caters for a pre-reception area and the main theatre. At the heart of the system, project designer Willy Suniman opted to install an Allen & Heath iDR-8 16x16 matrix mixer, which comes with eight XLR analogue mic/line inputs and outputs. The fully programmed iDR at the Ancol theme park attraction operates as a stand-alone system controller.

The multi-track audio feed is provided by a 1U rack mounted JoeCo BlackBox BBR1 recorder, which replays 24 channels of 24-bit/96 kHz audio in broadcast WAV (BWAV) format when triggered to do so. The iDR system can be managed from a PC, for which the delays, EQ, automatic microphone mixing, dynamics, limiter and ambient noise compensator can be configured, although its presets allow full recall of the whole system.

Meanwhile, two XTA DP446 processors offer further signal processing options for the Meyer Sound self-powered loudspeaker system in the theatre, which comprises four L-R CQ1s and eight UPA lateral wall speakers augmented by two 700HP subwoofers. Carefully concealed into the scenery surrounding the static 3D screen – which takes its feed from a Christie digital projector – Meyer Sound loudspeakers have become a standard in Indonesia for such film presentations.

The pre-reception area is catered for by Mackie SRM350 loudspeakers connected to a separate iDR-8 matrix mixer, connected to the main mixer supplying the theatre.
