KV2 strikes the right balance for Club V

SINGAPORE: Club V is a growing chain of nightclubs in Singapore specialising in live performances and karaoke. Club V6 located near Lavender MRT in Sultan Plaza was recently outfitted with a line array speaker system for its nightly live performances. However, noise pollution emitting from the zinc roof above the club to an adjacent tower block residence forced group general manager Albert Lee to consult Xiang Ju Chan from XJ Audio & Visual Productions together with his associate Eric Leow to identify and troubleshoot the problem.
Playing an assortment of playback and live music, the pair used walkie-talkies between the club and the apartment to measure the dBs and discovered that the line array cabinets located above the stage were the source of the problem. ‘The cabinets of the line array are lightweight and almost portable, but for fixed installation this isn’t necessarily an asset,’ he explained. ‘In fact, the lack of absorption materials and insulation inside the cabinet together with its low density construction was leaking the energy out above the roof rather than at the audience. The rock-wool above the stage could not isolate the emitting low frequencies.’
Removing the line array elements and re-employing them as a front fills has ensured an end to the noise spillage. Acquired from Sindo Exports, a new KV2 Audio point source system fulfils FOH duties combining two L-R ESD15 models with a smaller central ESD12 speaker. Powered by a single four-channel ESP4000 amplifier and managed via a Symetrix Jupiter 8x8 processor, the KV2 Audio system provides very clean, even dispersion throughout the main club but without disturbing the neighbours.
‘It took us two days to re-position the old line array, provide new conduits with Klotz cables to the FOH area and fix the three KV2 cabinets above the stage,’ furthered Mr Chan. ‘With the ESD15 speakers, you don’t need subwoofers. It may weigh 35kg, but this is an assurance that the cabinet will be dispersing the dB’s through the grilles rather than out of the sides and back of the cabinet. There are plenty of M6 and M10 mounting options making it easy to install. It’s a true three-way system combining 15-inch and 6-inch woofers with an HF compression driver and provides high definition in all three bandwidths with crossovers at 600Hz and 2kHz. The club owner is relieved that the neighbours aren’t complaining now, but he’s delighted with the sound quality as all the patrons are congratulating him now on his choice of PA system. From the VIP tables to the bar area, the ESD system provides a balanced and accurate dispersion.’
