Large DAS systems installed in Zhejian nightclubs

CHINA: Two nightclubs located in China’s Zhejian province have installed DAS Audio systems, supplied by the manufacturer’s authorised dealer in Eastern China, Hangzhou Chuangda Stage Facilities. According to Eduardo Lopez, business operations manager for DAS Audio Asia, the projects indicate a ‘growing interest in active speaker systems’ within China.
The larger of the two venues, the IN-Bar, is located in Taizhou, and has been supplied with a system comprising 24 Avant 15A powered enclosures, plus six LX-218A powered subs, three of which have been ground-stacked in a centre-mono configuration with the remaining three acting as delays. An additional five Avant 118A powered horn-bass subs plus a DSP-2060 processor for time-alignment complete the design.
Hangzhou Chuangda Stage Facilities technical representative Xiao Zhao was closely involved in the installation, working alongside the company’s general manager Jiang Chao. Mr Zhao explained that the Avant 15A’s rotatable horn proved particularly useful: ‘By rotating the horn, we were able to get the same coverage by flying the speakers horizontally—therefore, not compromising the view of the customers’.
The second installation – also managed by Mr Chao and Mr Zhao – saw a similar but smaller system deployed for the HJFB Bar’ in Zhoushan. Eight Aero 12A loudspeakers, flown four per-side in a left-right configuration, serve FOH, augmented by 12 Avant 15As operating as delays. Five LX-218A subs provide low end (three of which are ground-stacked with two as delays) alongside four Avant 118A bass enclosures. A DSP-4080 is used for processing.
‘With the trend of bars in China having singing performances every night – together with a selection of electronic music – we’re dealing with a system that is very versatile,’ explained Mr Zhao. ‘The installation had to be done in such a way that singers do not encounter feedback when they walk from one performance area to the next. The challenge was to keep everything sounding as natural as possible without the loss of clarity. Thus, we had to keep the microphones as unprocessed as possible.
‘The loudspeakers were specifically placed in a manner that the singers have the freedom to move around while ensuring enough coverage and high SPL levels for all areas. With both installations, the combination of Aero Series 2 and Avant systems was the ideal choice to address these conditions.’
