LAX opens new RampD facility

CHINA: Chinese Loudspeaker manufacturer LAX has opened a new research and development building as part of its Guangdong Province factory. The new facility stretches over 2440 sq-m and boasts one of the largest anechoic chambers in Asia at 360 sq-m.
While the R&D building boasts substantial dedicated electronics and audio laboratories plus offices that occupy more than 760 sq-m, it is the anechoic chamber that promises a new momentum behind LAX product development.
Its structure comprises a double layered sound insulation shell, the inner wall of which is constructed out of moulded concrete to eliminate ground vibrations. The construction sits on 528 springs and weighs 1,500 tonnes on its own. With the addition of 5680 pieces of sound-absorbent material, its weight increases to 1,700 tonnes. The sound-absorber used in the chamber – offering an absorption coefficient of 99 per cent within 100Hz – is 1.2m in length with a super-fine glass wool blanket.
According to LAX, the maximum effective working area within the chamber is 16m, while it affords the manufacturer a 50Hz lower frequency limit and less than 26dB environmental ground noise. The chamber meets Chinese implementation standards including GB/T 9396, GB/T 9397, GB 7313, and SJ/T 10406, plus international standards such as IEC 60268-5, AES2-1984, r2003, and EASE.
