Lifetime Audio Design equips Longrain cocktail bar

AUSTRALIA: Lifetime Audio Design has installed products from JBL, Crown and Shure into Australia’s Longrain cocktail bar. The bar, which is described as having a ‘Manhattan-style warehouse vibe,’ regularly features resident DJs, so the client specified that the sound system had to be able to ‘deliver background music most of the time, but also be able to deliver on a Friday and Saturday night’.

Having been a resident DJ at the venue himself for many years, Dave Carnovale, managing director of Lifetime Audio Design, was approached to spearhead the project. ‘I have a great relationship with the owners who know that I also have an installation company,’ he explained. ‘The owners had a couple of subwoofers that they wanted to re-use, and they’re not particularly high-powered – but I’ve given them a lot of amplification.’

A total of eight JBL Control25AV boxes were installed into the venue. Six are positioned in the bar area, and two reside in the corridor to the bar’s toilets. Four Crown XLS amplifiers drive the PA system. Mr Carnovale also selected Shure M44-7 cartridges, which were chosen to support vinyl-centric DJs. All equipment was distributed by Jands.

Mr Carnovale described the Control25AV boxes as ‘spot on’ for this type of application, adding that ‘there are enough of the Control25AV boxes to give the coverage required’.

Mr Carnovale was particularly ‘delighted’ with the Crown amplifiers: ‘From an installers point of view I would definitely use them again,’ he stated. ‘They have DSP onboard which means that you can change the crossover frequency at the output stage actually on the amplifier. That used to require a separate processor, so it’s brilliant not to have to buy the extra components.’
