Mahajak Development Co Ltd brings the sound to Too Fast To Sleep

THAILAND: Mahajak Development Co Ltd designed, supplied and installed a BGM system into a new café named Too Fast To Sleep. Located off the Rama IV Road opposite the Chulalongkorn University, the two-level property opened its doors earlier this year and immediately won over a large catchment of university students, freelancers and office workers.

The new café, which is open 24 hours a day, has a large open space on the second floor with complimentary Wi-Fi providing a conducive work environment away from lecture rooms and desks.

Too Fast To Sleep benefits from zoning courtesy of a dbx ZonePro 640 digital Zone Pro processor, and a Wizard function allowed Mahajak to quickly install the unit by streamlining the set-up process and configuration. The ZonePro 640 comes with two mic/line inputs and four line inputs for which each input channel provides EQ, while the mic/line inputs also offer two DSP insert blocks with a selection of compression, notch filtering, auto gain control, advanced feedback suppression (AFS), gating and de-essing. Each output zone provides a routing matrix where each of the inputs can be selected as the main source or priority source and paging can be provided from the mic/line inputs.

A choice of sources including Denon DN-D4500 dual CD and MP3 players can be played in the bar, hall, outdoor and lower level zones, whilst a Soundcraft MFX mixer promotes live performances in the split level café. Meanwhile, suspended from the 4.5m-5m height ceiling are nine white JBL Control pendant speakers augmented by two subwoofers that provide even coverage in the main café area, all of which are powered by Crown CTS 4150 and 8150 amplifiers. The peripheral outdoor area on the second floor is served by smaller wall-mounted JBL Control 24 speakers powered by a single Crown CDi 1000 amplifier.

‘The main café area is quite tricky owing to the building materials such as the concrete floor and glass frontage,’ explained Mahajak’s Alan Archer. ‘Unless the system is pushed too hard, we were able to tune the system in such a manner that there are no reflections. The pendant speakers provide very even coverage from such a height and the ZonePro 640 is really user friendly, allowing the café staff to configure different zones and sources as and when they need.’
