Marlon Hendrianto Sitompul obituary

INDONESIA: The Indonesian pro audio community was shocked to learn last week that Marlon Hendrianto Sitompul, one of its well known and best respected figures, had passed away suddenly following complications further to a contraction of Dengue Fever at the age of 38.

Since late 2009, Marlon Hendrianto Sitompul had fulfilled the coveted role of country manager – Indonesia, for the Singaporean-based distributor Electronics & Engineering Pte Ltd, promoting brands such as MyMix, Neutrik, Nexo and Tascam throughout the archipelagos.

Mr Sitompul graduated with a diploma from Jakarta’s Trisila Dharma Polytechnic in 1995, before furthering his credentials as a freelance sound engineer and working for PT Santika Multi Jaya in Jakarta. Whilst studying a course on live sound engineering in the UK, he worked as a maintenance, service and sound engineer for Tarsin Ltd in several of London’s leading venues. ‘It was very demanding, but I learnt a lot from my experiences in London, where I had to largely set up concerts on my own,’ he once commented.

Having adopted a Cockney accent, Mr Sitompul returned to Jakarta with PT Kairos Multi Jaya, before moving onto PT Prima Citra Megaswara in 2007 as the company’s business development manager in 2007, where he was responsible for the AKG and d&b audiotechnik brands.

Married with two children, Mr Sitompul’s passing away on June 2nd was unexpected. Electronics & Engineering Pte Ltd MD Ronald Goh was in Mumbai at the time attending the Palm India trade show.

‘What has happened here is nothing less than a tragedy,’ he commented. ‘Marlon was such a positive, influential and knowledgeable person. We are all in mourning and out of courtesy and respect for him, we have cancelled our E&E Indonesian road show. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family right now.’
