Martin Audio CDD takes Centre Stage

HONG KONG: SI and sales company Man Sing has supplied and installed a Martin Audio CDD (Coaxial Differential Dispersion) system into Centre Stage, Wan Chai. The bar and live music venue joins the lineup of watering holes along the legendary Jaffe Road, and is located next door to one of the owner’s existing establishments, Dusk ‘Til Dawn.

Centre Stage was set up with the intention of providing the best possible audio quality and this, according to the venue’s sound engineer Julius Bernales, is why the CDD system was chosen.

‘We hope that the sound will set us apart from all the other bars in this part of Hong Kong,’ said Mr Bernales. ‘Some of our friends from the Philippines recommended Martin’s CDD system as they are using it there, so we told our boss we’d like to try it too. Martin Audio has a very good reputation, and we knew it was a good brand for live sound.

‘For me, the Martin sound is very soft and warm, and as we are mainly putting on live music, we didn’t want anything too harsh, like a pure club system. However, we will have DJs alternating with the bands, and the CDD is good for this too. Now it’s been installed we really like the sound in the new venue, and so does the owner.’

Centre Stage is owned by Step By Step, which has five other bars throughout Hong Kong. ‘We have been around for 10 years and have worked on lots of bars in Wan Chai, Central and Lan Kwai Fong,’ continued Mr Bernales.

As with most Hong Kong bars, space at Centre Stage is at a premium, requiring just four CDD12 passive two-way speakers to be mounted above the stage to cover the entire venue, with a further two onstage for monitoring. Two CSX112 compact subwoofers have been concealed beneath the stage behind a grille. The system, which was sold by distributor, Pacific Budee Technology, is powered by four Crown 6000 Series amplifiers.

This is the first CDD system Man Sing has installed. ‘Before this installation we had used the F Series extensively, and we think the CDD sound is even more clear and powerful than Martin’s previous models,’ says Man Sing’s Ricky Wong. ‘We are very happy with the speakers; as well as sounding great they are easy to work with. They are compact in size, with small subwoofers, and this is very important here in Hong Kong.

‘With this installation we now have somewhere we can bring our customers to listen to the new system.’
