Melbourne airport duty free hotspots benefit from Bosch

AUSTRALIA: The F1RST Tax & Duty Free Departures store at Melbourne International Airport has been installed with EV surface mount loudspeakers and Bosch ceiling speakers.

Completed by Saltec, the installation follows a similar project in Sydney and comprises five in-store ‘hotspots’ designed to serve as key advertising and promotional areas for targeted products. Each hotspot boasts screens running from a media player plus a complement of loudspeakers providing specially tailored audio content.

In all there are 26 Electro Voice Evid 4.2T surface-mount speakers and 135 Bosch LBC3099 ceiling speakers utilised within the store. Hotspot One has four Evid 4.2T, while Hotspots two, three and four have two Evid 4.2T and three LBC3099 each. Hotspot five has two Evid 4.2T and four LBC3099. Elsewhere, the liquor bulkhead has been supplied with 10 Evid 4.2T, while the MAC retail area has five LBC3099 speakers. The remaining LBC3099 ceiling speakers are used throughout the store, split over three background music zones.

Each Hotspot also uses Electro Voice remote PWS-4 programmable wall switch and volume control managed by two NetMax N8000 digital signal processors with multiple input and output cards, while four Dynacord PCL1225T amplifiers and Electro Voice CPS4.5 amplifiers with RCM810 remote control modules power the system.

‘The performance of the Bosch speakers for this application is ideal as they are more directional than other speakers providing less overflow,’ enthused Chris Azzopardi, Saltec’s project system engineer. ‘In particular, the Evids are a nice size to compliment the screens in the Hotspots. Bryan Davidson was very helpful in assisting us with the design and installation. We have 20 input sources to 12 output sources allowing for further expansion in the future if required.’
