Messe Frankfurt and Guangzhou International STE to host Sound Light Guangzhou

CHINA: On the opening day of Pro Light + Sound Shanghai, organisers Messe Frankfurt announced that it is collaborating with the Guangzhou International Science & Technology Exhibition Company (STE) to jointly host Sound Light Guangzhou between March 9th-12th in 2013.

The alliance adds further fuel to the fire in China following the formation by the Industry Association of South China Entertainment Equipment (SCEE) of the breakaway Guangzhou Entertainment Technology (GET) show that started in 2011. Scheduled to take place in the Exposition Hall of the Guangzhou Pazhou World Trade Center between March 3rd-6th 2013, speculation is mounting as to how the two shows can co-exist within three days of one another. The GET show was formed by a number of Sound Light Guangzhou exhibitors who wanted a different show format to the one they had experienced.

Cordelia von Gymnich, Messe Frankfurt Exhibition VP of entertainment, media and creation was upbeat about the move taken by the two companies: ‘International manufacturers see Pro Light + Sound in Frankfurt as the premier marketing and meeting platform for the global event technologies industry. To help industry professionals to reach out to the developing markets worldwide, we held the first Pro Light + Sound Shanghai 10 years ago in China as well as Pro Light + Sound NAMM Russia in 2012. Now we are moving another step forward to break into the South East Asian event technologies export market, and an additional show in Guangzhou will be an effective trading platform.’

Having presided over the successful Music China exhibition for over 10 years, Messe Frankfurt has been largely unsuccessful in attracting growing numbers of overseas exhibitors to the Pro Light + Sound Shanghai exhibition. Although the Pro Light + Sound show amassed to three halls last week, it was largely composed of domestic manufacturers. It would appear that the merger with STE is an attempt to break that mould and enhance revenue streams for both companies.
