Miso Tech buys into SSL Live’s tonal qualities

HONG KONG: Established during the handover of 1997, Hong Kong-based rental company Miso Tech may have risen in stature but its two directors and co-founders, Tsang Siu Hong and So Wang Ip, have always kept their feet firmly on the ground. Having acquired several portable Ramsa speaker systems and a 24-channel Mackie mixer, Miso Tech was kept busy supplying the sound for local bands in the municipality. As its client base increased through a combination or repeat business and word of mouth to new customers, its inventory increased to cater for the demand. A used Turbosound TMS4 system, EAW wedges and an EAW KF730 line array system were added.
With the advent of digital mixing, Miso Tech was the first Hong Kong rental company to buy Avid D Show Profile consoles. ‘Our business model was changing as we found ourselves increasingly having to cater for live and location recording,’ explained Mr So Wang. ‘We brought in the D Show Profiles as they fitted the riders of local and touring acts, whilst Pro Tools also fulfilled our needs perfectly.’ In addition, Yamaha CL5 and QL5 consoles take up their positions on the Shatin warehouse racks, providing customers with more flexibility.
Following demonstrations made by DMT Professional, Miso Tech took the plunge and opted to purchase an SSL Live L500 console for its bespoke needs. In doing so, it has become the first rental company in Hong Kong to buy an SSL Live console. ‘The tonal quality is amazing and the low end is extremely tight,’ confirmed Mr Tsang. ‘We were initially quite alien to the work surface and the touchscreen, but we’re mastering it now. It’s perfect for live symphony and orchestral productions up to 64 microphone channels and we’ve already performed some multitrack recording on it during shows.’ Having taken the plunge to acquire the first D Show Profiles in Hong Kong, other rental houses followed. DMT Professional will be hoping the pattern continues, whereby others follow Miso Tech’s lead.
