Namm announces NSCA initiative and more for 2012

WORLD: The 2012 edition of the US Namm show, taking place in Anaheim, California between January 19th and 22nd, is set to include a new education and outreach initiative developed in tandem with the National Systems Contractors Association (NSCA). The group will host a mini-conference called Best Practices in Identifying, Selling and Managing Systems Integration Projects on January 19th from noon to 6pm.
Taking place within the show’s Hands On Training (HOT) Zone training area, the NSCA session will include a keynote address by the Association’s executive director Chuck Wilson, in which he will focus on smaller sound contractors and music retailers who offer system installation and integration support. Attendees will also be offered advice on future growth plus breakout sessions on effective sales proposals, how to improve project estimates and managing systems projects.
Anticipating the mini-conference, Mr Wilson explained: ‘With more contractors and retailers than ever branching out into systems work, it makes a lot of sense to provide education programs and outreach at Namm. We hope to share with these companies the true costs associated with doing the type of work and the risk/reward propositions which will make their system installations go smoothly.’
The announcement follows several recent hints at what lies in store for visitors to Namm 2012, with education once again forming a popular accompaniment to the main pro audio and MI exhibition halls.
In the HOT Zone attendees will find sessions including a conference on audio mastering hosted by Jonathan Wyner, a special Pro Tools clinic and a recording studio summit hosted by the Society of Professional Audio Recording Services (SPARS).
Elsewhere, the ‘Namm U’ program is set to begin each day with a ‘breakfast session’ held at the adjacent Hilton Anaheim Hotel’s Pacific Ballroom, offering strategies for strengthening businesses alongside appearances from special guest speakers. Later in the day, Namm’s Idea Centre Sessions will start at 10.30am and take place every 30 minutes throughout each of the show days.
Back on the show floor, meanwhile, Namm has added the App and Gaming Pavilion to the main exhibition, explaining that the area is intended to ‘welcome the growing market of high-tech companies to connect with the music products industry’.
