New sound system for Zafferano restaurant

SINGAPORE: Located on the 43rd floor of the Ocean Financial Centre, the Zafferano restaurant has recently been equipped with a new sound reinforcement system. Consolidated Audio Networks provided the audio design for the restaurant, which offers diners a 270-degree view of the island.

Despite the audio equipment being discretely hidden from view, it has not been excluded from the dining experience as Food Concepts Group Asia executive VP Jacco Klip explained: ‘From the outset, musical ambiance rated high on our list of priorities. The interior design is predominantly a blend of wood, leather and marble and we didn’t want to compromise this with wall-mounted speakers, so we appointed Consolidated Audio Networks to propose a solution for our needs.’

The 600 sq-m restaurant has been appropriately zoned into five sections by the Singapore-based supplier with a ceiling speaker system which includes 102 Turbosound TCS 50T speakers powered by four QSC ISA 800T amplifiers. The front of the restaurant is also served by a further two in-wall Impact 65T speakers and two floor mounted subwoofers located behind pillars to provide the indoor seating area with higher SPLs. A Symetrix Room Combine 788 system provides room zoning, including the restaurant’s two private dining rooms, which can be individually operated from wall-mounted controls.

Meanwhile, resident DJ Kate Matthews performs from the indoor and outdoor DJ booths via Pioneer DJM900 Nexus mixers and CDJ900 multi players. After 10pm from Thursday to Saturday, the outdoor area is further boosted by dual One Systems IM112 speakers and 118 subwoofers, powered by a combination of MC2 Audio E45 and T-2000 amplifiers.

‘The sound system has not been compromised by the glass, marble and steel construction,’ furthered Mr Klip. ‘We want our diners to stay late into the evening and enjoy the views and the music from the bar or outdoors. Therefore, the loudspeakers had to provide more power than just background music without distortion and with an even dispersion. Luckily, we get that with the Turbosound TCS 50T speakers and so far we have enjoyed catering to late night crowds here.’

Consolidated Audio Network’s Jesmin Kaur oversaw the design being installed and was pleased with the results. ‘As the project neared its conclusion, it was important for the installers to complete their task as quickly as possible. Once the cable had been laid, the white 5-inch ceiling speakers – which weigh just over 3kg – were easily positioned and terminated.’
