AUSTRALIA: Distributed by Group Technologies, a selection of products from Nexo, DiGiCo and Camco provided the sound reinforcement for a cabaret-style corporate VIP event at the Hisense Arena. Advanced Audio was responsible for configuring and directing the A/V setup for the occasion, which was held to coincide with the AFL Grand Final match.
The master of ceremonies for the event, which was attended by 1,600 guests, was channel seven's Jim Wilson, and special guest footballers included Nic Naitanui, Luke Hodge, Chris Judd, and David Swallow.
The choice was made to fly four hangs of Nexo, with one array pointing outwards from each corner. Each hang comprised of three Geo S1210 scalable loudspeaker modules and one Geo S1230 module. Meanwhile, four Alpha S2 subs were installed under the stage with one facing each direction.
Corporate cover band ‘Headspace’ was allocated eight Nexo PS15 loudspeakers for foldback, with Camco amps powering the entire configuration. Vortex 6 amplifiers powered the main systems with the amp racks at FOH, while Tecton 38.4 amps were installed under the stage to drive foldbacks and front fill. A DiGiCo SD11 console was used to mix the five-piece band, while an iPad was used for playback of recorded material.
‘It sounded really great,’ remarked Steve Kirkland, one of the directors at Advanced Audio. ‘The coverage was awesome; it was so even across the entire area. Speech intelligibility was excellent too. Jim Wilson (the MC) was very happy with the setup,’ he added.
Describing the SD11’s performance as ‘brilliant,’ Mr Kirkland continued: ‘For the size, it just does so much, and we find it really handy to have. It sounds exactly the same as the bigger SD consoles and we did the whole VIP event on it with ease.’
For the visual side of the project, Advanced Audio selected eight plasma's with custom brackets so that the screens could be set onto stands for the benefit of any guests seated closer to the stage. Four screens and four projectors were also utilised, which were being fed by three cameras pointed at the stage. Advanced Audio's second director Peter Rickman controlled this section via a vision switcher.
Lighting was comprised of eight movers for the band and stage effects, 32 Lumicraft LED panels for ambience, and 48 Par 64s for general room lighting, all which was controlled via a laptop and a midi control surface.
Mr Kirkland praised the entire crew’s efforts, concluding that: ‘It makes the world of difference when we have a team of guys who know how to get the job done. We couldn't do it without them.’
