Nexo STM deployed for Seoul’s Asia Song Festival

SOUTH KOREA: Rental company Way Audio overcame numerous challenges in order to provide various Nexo STM line array systems for Seoul’s recent Asia Song Festival 2013. Held at the Jamsil Olympic Stadium and attracting an audience of more than 25,000, this was the 10th annual Asian pop music festival to be held in South Korea.
Rental company Way Audio faced an exceptional challenge on this project due to terrible weather forecasts that required event organisers to change the layout of the stage and seating. Moving the stage to a new position nearer the grandstand allowed the audience to be seated and stay dry under the stadium roof.
Way Audio’s sound designer Yun-Cheol Lee, configured the STM system, with S118 subwoofers flown with the main and bass cabinets. This marked the first time the rental company had supplied such a configuration, however Mr Lee and chief engineer Jang-Yong Park report that it was ‘extremely successful’.
In total, 15 M46 main modules with 15 B112 bass cabinets were deployed per side for the main system, boosted by 14 S118 sub bass cabinets per side, flown in two arrays of seven cabinets. Fourteen Geo T cabinets per side provided side-fill support, whilst eight 45°N-12 line monitors and 10 PS15-R2 wedges were used for stage monitoring.
Way Audio, which took delivery of its Nexo STM rig from A-Works in July, is said to have received an excellent reception for its work at this show.
‘Day by day, we are increasing our knowledge and our expertise with this new generation of PA system,’ said Mr Lee. ‘Its modularity presents many opportunities for different configurations in different applications, and the more events we do, the more we become STM experts! For example, flying the subwoofers for the first time in the Olympic Stadium amazed all of us – we have never felt such powerful sub energy before. It was awesome!’
This year, Korean singers, 2PM, EXO, Girl’s Day, ZE:A (aka Children of Empire), Dynamic Duo and No Brain, joined other Asian performers such as Gloria Tang, aka GEM from Hong Kong, 7ICONS from Indonesia and MYMP from the Philippines to perform at the festival. Super Junior’s Eunhyuk, 2PM’s Taecyeon, and EXO’s Chris took on the role of MCs for the event.
The event’s promoter also stages the Ji-San World Rock Festival, where Way Audio’s STM made its Korean debut earlier on in the year.
