Outline Audio forms first fixed-install sound system for VivoCity

SINGAPORE: Synergy AVL Pte Ltd recently delivered the first fixed-installation sound system into Singapore’s VivoCity retail and lifestyle destination. Prior to the install VivoCity relied on hired-in ound and lighting systems.
Since its grand opening in December 2006, VivoCity has maintained its status as Singapore's largest retail and lifestyle destination. Located at Sentosa Gateway, the third-level outdoor Sky Park amphitheatre commands a sweeping vista across a narrow strait of water towards Resort World Sentosa. The outdoor seating area – comprising wooden tiered pews and protected from the intense elements by a large white circular canopy structure – looks down upon a 1m high, 10m x 12m stage, which was also recently covered with a large canopy structure.
Synergy AVL Pte Ltd was awarded the contract to design, supply and install a fixed sound system within the amphitheatre in January 2011, with sales engineer Chip Chong taking on project management duties. Owing to the wide seating area, an L-C-R configuration has been adopted for the front of house system, with an Outline Audio system comprising six DVS15 SP cabinets hung in pairs having been installed above the stage onto the Milos M290 aluminium trussing.
The uniform directivity of the DVS15 SP enclosures is described as ideal for the size of the seating area. The loudspeakers offer an average dispersion of 87-degrees (horizontal) x 79-degrees (vertical) in the spoken-word frequency range (500Hz - 4kHz), plus average wide-range sound coverage of 85-degree H x 66-degrees V from 500Hz to 10kHz.
Supplementing the left and right positions meanwhile are SubTech 218SP subwoofers, which offer lower frequency extension to 26Hz. This class D self powered system has been given further protection courtesy of outer jackets, without compromising the quality of the audio.
Klotz cables have also been used in addition to a digital snake which is neatly trunked through invisible conduits to a control room at the rear of the venue, where the A/V technicians can mix performances on a Mackie Onyx 3208 console. An Outline Genius 26 offers digital signal processing options, whilst Shure SLX wireless microphone systems were selected for the Amphitheatre’s many and varied needs, which are boosted by Shure active antennas.
The sound system, which was tuned by Laz Harris, was completed in time for the Chinese New Year festivities. VivoCity now promotes the venue to retailers for fashion festivals, media corporations and local schools for events.
