INDONESIA: Jakarta’s Nusa Indah Theatre – Bali Kartini recently played host to the internationally renowned Andrew Lloyd Webber musical The Phantom of the Opera. A Turbosound Flex Array system, supplied by Indonesian rental company Sumber Ria, was used to provide front of house reinforcement.
Described as ‘the most famous musical in history’, The Phantom of the Opera played at the theatre between February 14th and March 3rd, representing the first international musical production to be staged in Jakarta in some time. Produced by Big Daddy Productions, the show boasted lighting design by award-winning Broadway veteran Marcia Madeira, and even a new song, Music of Life, penned by Ivan Jacobs.
The L-C-R audio system included two hangs per side both comprised of eight Turbosound TFA-600H mid-high enclosures plus four TFA-600L subs. A further six Turbosound TFA-600H cabinets were flown above the stage for centre-fill while four TSW-218 subwoofers provided further low-end reinforcement. At front of house meanwhile was a DiGiCo D5 digital console, while the artists’ performances were captured via 32 Countryman E6 headsets using Shure ULX14 wireless channels.
Turbosound’s Indonesian distributor, PT Promedia Innovative Solutions (PIS), reportedly enjoys a strong relationship with both Sumber Ria and the management of the Nusa Indah Theatre – Bali Kartini. Managing director Yosua Yan Heriyanto was quick to praise the reaction to the Phantom Flex Array system.
‘The vocal clarity of Flex Array really caught the audience’s attention,’ he enthused. ‘It provides great intelligibility, and really highlights the subtleties of music at any volume. Combined with the innovative acoustic and mechanical design it was the clear choice for the venue.’
