Phoenix Valley Cultural Center looks to Renkus-Heinz for flexible sound solution

CHINA: The Phoenix Valley Cultural Center in Changzhou’s Wujin District, China, has been enhanced with addition of a Renkus-Heinz line array sound system. The design and installation was performed by Shanghai LeDan Audio Equipment Co Ltd.

Situated on a busy thoroughfare, the centre spans more than 15,000 sq-m, and is home to four cinemas, sports and dance halls, as well as a retail hub, children's playgrounds, and a public square with canals and gardens.

The complex’s crown jewel, the Grand Theatre, seats just over 1,000 people across two floors. The venue hosts a wide range of events, from musicals to theatre, with 17 projectors transforming the stage into an Omni-Max style theatre.

Audio for the theatre needed to be able to accommodate a variety of events, from drama, live shows and TV, to meetings, conferences and multi-media reporting. The system designed by Shanghai LeDan Audio Equipment comprises of left, right, and centre hangs, composed of 14 Renkus-Heinz STLA/9 line array loudspeakers. Eight SGX41 4-inch loudspeakers were mounted on the orchestra rail as front fills, with six TRX81 providing rear fill, and four DRS18-2B subwoofers adding low end reinforcement. Stage monitoring is catered for with a combination of PNX151T, TRX121/9, and CF81 cabinets.

For cinema presentations, a surround system was installed. This is comprised of 20 TRX81/12 speakers, alongside three STX7/64 cabinets mounted on top. On stage effects have been provided by a single STX5M2 speaker and STX5 subwoofer.

Adjacent to the Grand Theatre is the Small Theatre, a 200-seat auditorium designed for meetings, multimedia conferences, and small performances. The installation team opted for left and right arrays composed of three STX4 cabinets, with four CFX81 boxes for front fill and a pair of DRS18-2B subs.
