Plasa restructures management team

WORLD: Plasa has restructured its management team with the announcement of four new appointments, with the additional promise of two further appointments to come. Plasa reports that this announcement will support its ongoing merger activities whilst being in response to the departure of Ruth Rossington, former executive director in Europe.

As from the 1st of October 2011, a new company structure will be put in place that will see chief executive officer Matthew Griffiths heading up the association, whilst also temporarily overseeing the Events divisions in the UK and in North America. Meanwhile, finance director Shane McGreevy will become chief operating officer (COO) with responsibilities expanding beyond finance and core services into operational administration and personnel. Lori Rubinstein, current executive director in North America, will have the new title of director of membership, skills, standards and technical, overseeing core association activities. Lastly, Jackie Tien, formerly head of publishing in North America, will assume directorial responsibility for all media, sales and marketing activities.

The new structure is described as a ‘transitional phase’ to a longer-term strategy designed to strengthen Plasa’s role in the industry by recruiting a series of divisional heads to work under the management team to lead the future development of Plasa’s five operating divisions.

Plasa reports it has taken steps towards this goal by announcing it will soon be recruiting for the newly created role of head of membership, a UK-based position which it hopes will come into effect by the end of 2011. Additionally, Plasa has announced it will also appoint a new head of events in early 2012, whose remit will include the development of the association’s international portfolio of exhibitions and conferences.
