Primacoustic improves Speakeasys studio facility

SINGAPORE: After a relocation in 2010, Singaporean audio and video production house Speakeasy selected Primacoustic products for the internal acoustic treatment of its studio facility. The studio was designed by Speakeasy and built by David Tan.

Speakeasy director Barry Butler reports that the new building was not designed to accommodate the special requirements of a recording facility. The main issue, he said, was sound control – as the location is on a main road and is in the flight path of F16 aircraft.

With this in mind, six wall panels were placed on the rear walls of the control room, six were fitted for the ceiling, and two corner traps were installed. In the studio’s booth, five panels were attached to the back reflective wall and three ceiling panels have been fitted.

Speaking about the Primacoustic acoustic solutions chosen, Mr Butler said: ‘We opted for beige, as it suited the studio colouring, but with the intention to cover them later with something more appropriate to the studio design. We opted for extra thickness multilayer walls to solve the audio problem, and the further application of internal acoustic material. For this, we approached Hung Bros for the relevant acoustic panels,’ he explained.

The panels have since been covered in designer fabrics, and Mr Butler reports that this ‘not only contributes to the function of the space, but also works well with the facility’s overall look. The improvement is remarkable,’ he enthused.
