Pro audio industry descends on Guangzhou

CHINA: The southern Chinese city of Guangzhou has been playing host to two pro audio trade fairs this week, with Pro Light & Sound Guangzhou pipping the GET Show to the post by a mere 24 hours. The impact of such an overlap will no doubt be clearer as stands are broken down but the beginning of the week heralded the largest PL&S Guangzhou to date with a reported 1,230 exhibitors from 25 countries and 130,000 sq-m of floor space booked.

The increased footprint ensured that visitors were presented with a wealth of products throughout the 13 PL&S halls from distributors and manufacturers alike. On the DMT booth the new SSL L300 and L500 consoles drew interested crowds along with DPA’s d:screet SC4098 supercardioid podium microphone. Shanghai People’s Sound AV Science & Technology Co Ltd displayed a full complement of its principal FBT’s product line-up, including the J Series, Archon, Vertus and Shadow series speakers. Over on the Enewave booth visitors could discover the DigiMania series of processors and X-Pad slim line speakers.

Sales and marketing director (Europe and America) Markus Augenstein, from Audiocenter was particularly upbeat regarding the first few days. ‘We’ve seen lots of international visitors, mostly from South East Asia, but we’ve also had new visitors from South America and Europe,’ he commented. ‘Our new KLA 815 subwoofer has had its launch here and has received a great reaction.’

With the GET show ribbon cut, exhibitors such as App Audio, Z Sound and SAE Audio were then faced with the challenge of coordinating two booths in the two locations. Although the GET show is generally considered a more localised show, international brands were widely represented on the show floor, with Meyer Sound’s Leopard 900-LFC taking pride of place on the Shanghai Broad Future Electro Technology Co Ltd and Muse Audio displaying Qu-32, Qu-16 and Qu-Pac consoles from Allen & Heath. Taiwanese manufacturer Mipro took advantage of its local office setup to display itsrange of wireless instrument mics, antenna and tour guide solutions.

PL&S Guangzhou runs until the March 3rd, whilst the GET show continues through to the March 4th. In 2017 however, a reprieve is granted for both exhibitors and visitors alike with PL&S kicking off the Chinese show season from February 22nd–25th and the GET show picking up the baton between February 27th and March 2nd.
