Pro audio’s first dedicated mobile social network launches

WORLD: The world’s first mobile social network dedicated to the professional audio industry has launched in the form of the Pro Audio Social Stream, or PASS. Available now for free download from the Apple App Store and operating on iOS devices such as the iPhone and iPad, PASS is intended to become a business tool for the entire industry. Users can connect with new contacts worldwide while sharing their projects and ideas via text posts, pictures, videos and links.
Introduced by Blank Canvas Publishing Ltd, the company behind Pro Audio Asia, Pro Audio Middle East and Worship AVL Asia, PASS also offers access to dynamic versions of the magazines on an iPhone or iPad.
In addition, users can watch a growing library of fully searchable educational video content from the industry’s leading manufacturers. The videos are sourced from www.proaudioeducation.com, a new website also launching this week which collects educational videos from across the web, gathering them together into one easy to view hub.
The concept behind PASS, explains Blank Canvas editorial director Barney Jameson, is to offer the industry a dedicated social network where it can do business without distraction. ‘The problem with a public, consumer network like Facebook or Twitter is that only a fraction of people using those services are interested in what you have to say as a business or individual working in the industry. Meanwhile, the industry struggles to find ways to connect with the right people and find new business opportunities.
‘PASS is meant to address that problem, and it comes from a very simple idea – pro audio people working on the front line of the industry who deserve to celebrate the great work they do with peers who understand and appreciate it. Now they can simply pick up their iPhone or iPad, take a picture or record a video, and share that work with the whole industry.’
Crucially, PASS has been designed specifically as a mobile social network, reflecting global trends that have seen a dramatic rise in the use of smartphones to access social media, against a decline in desktop use.
‘PASS is on your iPhone or iPad so that you carry it with you during your working day,’ adds Mr Jameson. ‘You don’t need to be sat at a computer to find out what’s happening in the industry or what might affect your business.’
In its first generation PASS is available for free exclusively on Apple devices, while plans are underway to bring the network to Android devices in the future.
