Pro Light amp Sound 2012 opens with major launches

WORLD: Pro Light & Sound 2012 has opened in Frankfurt, Germany with a wealth of product launches on its first morning, including the arrival of a new console from DiGiCo named the SD5, and the debut of the Dante-equipped Symnet Edge from Symetrix. Further high profile product introductions are expected from exhibitors including Midas and DPA.
The SD5 made its debut during a packed DiGiCo press conference, during which managing director James Gordon introduced the console as the spiritual successor to the D5. The news began a busy day at the Messe, with crowded aisles and booths indicating that the recent high profile success of ISE 2012 does not seem to have diminished the crowd-pulling power of Frankfurt as a hub for the international audio industry.
'Day one has been better than expected,' reflected Mark Flannagan of Tannoy. 'We are coming to the show after a very successful ISE and so the bar has been set high.' Capitalising on the strong attendance, Tannoy is hosting daily seminars in both German and English on its stand throughout the show.
Elsewhere, Symetrix launched the new Dante-equipped Symnet Edge, and vice president of sales and marketing Paul Roberts was enthusiastic about the show. 'The majority of our Asian distributors are represented here this year and we even have representatives from Latin America and of course all over Europe,' he explained. 'I've already seen a huge number of our distributors here. It's really a hub.'
Finally, Sennheiser's Marc Vincent summed up the mood on the show floor: 'It's a great show. All the major players are here and it's a good networking show.'
