Promedia tackles sound system for Trans Studio theme park

INDONESIA: Promedia Innovative Solutions recently designed, supplied and installed the sound reinforcement system for the Trans Studio theme park in Bandung. When it opened in June 2011, it was crowned the biggest indoor theme park in Asia.
In conjunction with Trans Studio director Budiman Wijaya and senior audio division manager Hendri Ananto, the Promedia team selected a sound reinforcement system for the park, which consists of over 400 surface mount, line array and portable speakers.
Promedia was also commissioned to install a sound reinforcement system into a newly opened special effects action venue within the theme park, which is reported to be the first of its kind in Asia. The show features pyrotechnics with controlled fires and spectacular explosions, in which cars explode over 6m into the air.
‘Trans Studio is pulling out all the stops to produce an audience experience that will more than rival the special effects experiences at major theme parks around the world,’ commented Garner Holt, consultant at Garner Holt Productions, Inc.
The project required close coordination between the US-based companies and all the local vendors, leading to all of the sets and props being custom-built in Indonesia. Sound effects, live performances and musical playback for the new show are provided by six Turbosound TCX15 15-inch speakers, with the lower frequencies supplemented by four Turbosound M18 active subwoofers, which are powered by two Studiomaster SX4500 dual 1,800W amplifiers. Four units of Turbosound Milan M15 speakers are used as live performance monitors.
Loudspeaker management is performed on a Studiomaster AC88 processor, whilst the show’s live mixes are controlled on a Studiomaster 162BPX 16-channel, 28 input rack-mount mixer receiving sound effects content from a Cubase Nuendo digital audio workstation. Four channels of Shure SLX14 are used for the show, using Countryman E6 headsets.
‘We had to select audio products that would offer an outstanding price performance criteria,’ commented Mr Ananto. ‘Following our research, we found that the Turbosound TCX series was the best value speaker for our needs.’
Mr Wijaya was equally satisfied with the final outcome. ‘There has never been a special effects and stunt show like this in Indonesia,’ he said. ‘We have had a long working relationship with Yosua Yan Heriyanto from Promedia, and as a result we were very confident that they would provide a great sound system for this first of a kind exhibit.’
Promedia’s work to date with the group includes supplying audio broadcast equipment to Trans TV and Trans 7, equipping Coffee Bean outlets with Genelec speaker systems throughout Indonesia, and the outfitting of the Trans Studio Makassar.
