ProVA supplies surround sound QSC system for Rani auditorium

INDIA: Distributor ProVA has supplied a 5.1 QSC system to the Rani Auditorium in Chennai, part of a complete technical refurbishment handled by contractor Pro Lumens and Decibels.
The auditorium’s owners wanted to increase the amount of events it handles, as well as the different types of functions the hall can cater for. ‘They wanted to use this space as a preview theatre for 5.1 productions and other functions,’ explained B S Periyaswamy, head of sales for PLD. ‘Previously, the auditorium was installed with a local brand of speaker and used for drama, comedies, etc. Now it can stage more sophisticated productions.’ This includes corporate events, cultural dance performances and AGM meetings.
ProVA supplied an LCR main system consisting of three hangs of three QSC KLA12-BK two-way active line array speakers, supplemented by four KW181 subwoofers with eight SR-110B cinema surround speakers per side, powered by four QSC GX3 amps The auditorium also specified a QSC monitoring system of four K12 powered portable speakers, with two QSC AD-S52T-BK control room monitors powered by a GX3. DSP for the auditorium is via QSC RAVE522UA CobraNet I/O configurable units.
A Mackie Onyx 32-4 analogue mixer has been installed in the control room. ProVA also provided a number of Audio Technica mics including ATW-2121 and 2110 radio mic systems, ATM610 hyper cardioids, ATM650 instrument mics, ATM73cW headsets, an MB/Dk6 drum mic kit and PRO49QL goosenecks.
In the lobby, PLD has installed a QSC ceiling speaker system of 24 AD-C42T-WH speakers powered by a CX204V amp provide background music. A range of A/V equipment by Sony, Extron, Barco and Libery has also been installed and integrated into the system, which can be easily controlled in the auditorium by Crestron panels.
‘We had a normal stereo system in the auditorium before, and the new system has made a very big difference, especially with the integrated automation and control,’ said Mr Pondy, head of A/V maintenance at the auditorium. ‘The ease of use for outside engineers, as well as the sound quality, has increased hugely.’
