Quad Professional assumes Singapore Clair Brothers distribution

SINGAPORE: In the first step of a major new distribution effort, Clair Brothers has announced Singaporean supplier Quad Professional as its new exclusive distributor for Singapore and Malaysia. The deal follows the manufacturer’s appointment of David Cooper to help it establish a world-wide network of distribution partners for its loudspeaker brand.

Known for its lauded history in the touring industry, Clair Brothers – founded by Roy Clair and now run by president Barry Clair – has long deployed its own loudspeakers on major productions, establishing the boxes within the top-tier of live sound brands within the US market and beyond. The appointment of Mr Cooper to the role of global business development sees the manufacturer extending its reach outside of the US as part of a long-term strategic plan encompassing the opening of a new manufacturing facility in Manheim, Pennsylvania. ‘We’ve built a state of the art facility that builds premium quality Clair Brothers loudspeaker systems,’ explained Barry Clair. ‘The appointment of David Cooper confirms our ambition to deliver these solutions to customers all around the world.’

Fulfilling the first stage of that ambition is the engagement of Quad Professional, the supplier best known for its association with Midas Klark Teknik. Though relatively new to the Singaporean market, the distributor is led by industry veteran Vincent Tan, who was quick to praise the Clair Brothers brand.

‘When you talk about mixing consoles you talk about Midas. When you talk about speakers, there are many brands out there but Clair Bros stands out,’ he enthused. ‘When I was given this opportunity I immediately grabbed it without hesitation.’

Mr Tan continued that the addition of Clair Brothers to Quad’s roster is intended to reflect the distributor’s determination to represent only high end brands. ‘We are not a brands collector. We are small and we choose our distributorships carefully. We are very committed and very focused, and we cannot afford to make a mistake. When we took Midas we developed the brand and it’s now stable. Now we have Clair Brothers I think it’s our duty to do a good job for them and then we can focus on other products. We choose the difficult way – we started with Midas and we must have something that is on a similar platform.’

In terms of his plans for introducing Clair Brothers product to Singapore and Malaysia, Mr Tan reasoned that Quad will be targeting very specific portions of the market. ‘We will have to do a lot of shoot-outs. I will choose and pick my customer – those people who are sincerely interested in owning Clair Brothers, and those who are ready to own Clair Brothers. We are very careful with the customers we approach. We don’t need to sell in quantity, we need to sell in quality.’
