RCF’s TTP5-A makes Japanese debut at Big Beach Festival

JAPAN: For the second year in succession, RCF was chosen to support Japan’s recent Big Beach Festival (BBF) at the Makuhari Seaside Park in Chiba, debuting its TTP5-A in Japan in the process. Promoted by Akira Kidoguchi and Masachika Fukui for A-life Entertainment Co Ltd, rental company Comestock once again equipped the three stages with RCF TT+ systems for the 25,000 festival-goers that flocked to the site to see headliners Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim) and Basement Jaxx.
Six of the new TTP5-A enclosures (configured three per side) were put to use in the ‘Disco Balloon’, supplied (as with all the RCF equipment) by the Italian manufacturer’s territorial distributors, Ballad Co Ltd. Two Sub 8006-AS cabinets provided low end, whilst DJs used TT22-A active, non-linear monitors.
RCF product specialist, Oscar Mora was on hand to provide technical support – assisting with flying the rig, during rehearsal and at the event itself, as well as advising on cabling issues and which crossover points the TTL56-A and TTL36-AS required. In a system technician role, he also demonstrated correct use of RCF’s RDNet software to ensure the TT+ systems were fully optimised and monitored.
A total of 28 TTL55-A enclosures (rigged in two hangs) reinforced by 12 TTS56-A subs, 12 TTL36-AS flyable bass cabinets and eight TTL31-A line array modules provided in-fill and near field coverage on the main stage. Each DJ received their reference sound from an additional pair of TT25-SMA monitors and TTS18-A subs.
Meanwhile, the Island Stage utilised 12 TTL33-A elements, with four TTS28-A cabinets and four TTL36-AS models for LF extension. Two TT25-As and four NX15-SMAs were provided for DJ monitoring.
Norman Cook was described to be ‘happy to be working in an RCF TT+ environment again’, having previously used the TTL55-A at a beach concert in Croatia in 2011, while FOH sound engineer Shan Hira was said to be ‘more than happy with the impact created by the RCF system’.
‘The new system satisfied the needs of BFF very much,’ concurred Ballad’s Ou Lifeng. ‘The engineer/FOH operator said that after hearing all of the positive comments about the sound quality last year, he got exactly that for BFF 2013.’
RCF’s Lars Yoshiyama also added his endorsement to the successful deployment, commenting on ‘how well the new TTP-5A acquitted itself, and the punch of the 4-inch CD driver’.
