Røde shares its secrets with new web site

AUSTRALIA: Røde Microphones has announced the launch of ‘the Røde Difference,’ a new website and online campaign that gives a behind-the-scenes look at how the manufacturer produces its microphones. Visitors to the site can view a virtual tour of the Sydney-based factory, led by Røde founder and president Peter Freedman.
Mr Freedman states that he considers it an appropriate time to ‘open the doors to the audio community’ and allow them to discover the secrets and techniques behind the company’s ‘unique’ microphone production process.
‘There are some companies that like to tout the romantic notion of “handmade” microphones – visions of the grey-haired engineer in a pristine white lab coat spending days meticulously assembling a single transducer,’ explained Mr Freedman when offering up some ‘behind-the-scenes information. ‘But this isn’t what handmade means to microphones. You cannot produce products equal to the quality and consistency of Røde in this way, when you are dealing in tolerance of thousandths of a millimetre and you demand ultimate accuracy and consistency’.
On the Røde Difference website, the company reports that a key aspect in contributing to the quality of its products is that all the design, testing, manufacturing and technical expertise is owned and controlled in-house by the manufacturer itself.
‘Even the largest and most prestigious names subcontract infrequently-used test and analysis devices, as well as some complex machining processes,’ Mr Freeman continued. ‘Some of the companies that supply our equipment have even asked us to show them how we are able to achieve the results we do. As an engineer and manufacturer, that makes me exceptionally proud.’
