Rødeworks design studio heralds new era for microphone manufacturer

AUSTRALIA: Røde Microphones recently celebrated the opening of a new design studio in the Surry Hills district of Sydney, with Ian Murray AM, executive director of the Australian Institute for Export, officiating the opening ceremony as guest of honour. A range of guests from the media, design, academic and financial sectors were also in attendance to celebrate the opening of Rødeworks.

Occupying an entire floor of an inner city building, the Rødeworks design studio is intended to become self-sufficient. It will house Røde’s in-house product design and marketing teams, led by VP of design and new product development, Peter Cooper, though the manufacturer is also keen to attract a ‘new breed’ of designers to the project.

The studio is described by the Røde founder and managing director, Peter Freedman, as representing ‘so much more than just another office, it is both an acknowledgement to the success of Australian design and a commitment to further investment and expansion for Røde’.

Since producing its first microphones in 1990, Røde has become one of Australia’s most recognised audio exporters, winning a clutch of international awards including multiple Australian International Design Awards, a European Red Dot award, and most recently a Good Design award from the Chicago Athenaeum.

During the opening event, Ian Murray was quick to praise the manufacturer’s approach to keeping resources in-house and investing in local Australian manufacturing.
