Sennheiser and K-Array prepare for Universiade 2011 opening ceremony

CHINA: Preparations are continuing for the opening ceremony of the Summer Universiade 2011, which is due to take place on August 12th in Shenzhen, China. Both Sennheiser and K-Array have deployed a wealth of equipment for the event, with Sennheiser named as the official audio sponsor for the ceremony. Both manufacturers have also supplied the 63 stadiums that will be used for the Games.

A biennial international sporting competition, the Universiade (also known as the Summer World University Games) is often described in athletics circles as second in importance only to the Olympics. This year’s Shenzhen-hosted event will be the 26th Games and is being billed as one of the biggest ever in terms of scale. The microphones used in all of the venues for the Games have been provided by Sennheiser, with models including the evolution series, 2000 series, 5000 series and MKH 8040s.

Meanwhile, substantial public address systems have been supplied by Italian loudspeaker manufacturer K-Array, for whom Sennheiser acts as an exclusive agent in China. The opening ceremony alone will use 60 pairs of KR200s, 16 pairs of KR400s, 30 pairs of KK200s, 30 pairs of KK100s, 16 pairs of KK50s and KKS50 line array bass units. Elsewhere, the fencing hall, the taekwondo hall and the international chess venue have all been supplied with K-array KR200 speakers for public address.

Teams from both Sennheiser and K-array have reportedly been on-site in Shenzhen providing technical support since the beginning of July.
