Sennheiser guides visitors at National Rail Museum

INDIA: A Sennheiser Audio Guide guidePORT system was recently installed at the National Rail Museum (NRM) in New Delhi in partnership with systems integrator, Integrated Digital Solution (IDS). The NRM is spread over more than 11 acres – the outdoor section displaying more than 80 full-scale exhibits, covering locomotives, carriages, wagons and special purpose vehicles.
The exhibit consists of many tales and anecdotes interweaved into the narrative of the railway service. The museum’s oldest exhibit was in service between 1862 and 1962 and its latest model is one which is still servicing the Indian railways today.
Many professionals were consulted for the execution of the project and the deployment of an audio guide system. The aim was not only to guide the visitor through storytelling, but also to emulate the listening as if he or she were a part of the real experience.
Integrated Digital Solutions was consulted after the museum authorities had exhausted all avenues for a single point responsibility team that could provide comprehensive quality solution, meeting the overall objective of the museum.
In total, 30 of Sennheiser’s guidePORT Audio Guide units were set up to provide well researched descriptions and information on every exhibit in English, Hindi, and can be upgraded to up to 31 languages. The museum offers guidance in two versions – one for children and the other for adult visitors. While configuring the hardware of the Sennheiser guidePORT, due consideration was made to include an usher-based team leader with his or her own unit.
Loop aerials and other cables were embedded in the wall during the conversion work, making the installation virtually maintenance free, yet flexible for upscaling and upgrading for more languages or new stations or exhibits.
‘The National Rail Museum project has been a great experience for Sennheiser as the Indian railway is a very important part of our heritage, and we are proud to be associated with this prestigious project,’ commented Vipin Pungalia, vice president, sales and marketing, professional segment, Sennheiser India.
‘We are very happy to partner with National Rail Museum for a complete audio narrative solution and provide cutting age technology to enable them to provide a great experience to tourists,’ concured Anshuman Dubey, senior product manager, integrated systems India, Sennheiser India. ‘It is interesting to see that Indian museums and exhibits are investing in technological up gradations and with this partnership, the National Rail Museum is now part of our portfolio of great exhibits, museums and foundations across the country that have installed Sennheiser guidePORT.’
