Seogwipo Art Centre welcomes digital amplification

KOREA: The newly opened Seogwipo Art Centre on South Korea’s Jeju Island has been outfitted with a sound system featuring EAW loudspeakers and Powersoft amplifiers. Comprising a large 802-seat auditorium as well as a smaller 190-seat venue, separate art gallery and outdoor area, installers Holy Land of Technology of Incheon carried out the project with system design and equipment supplied by regional distributor DasanSR.

In the main auditorium 16 EAW KF730P loudspeakers were specified with the HF and LF sections powered respectively by three Powersoft K3 and three K10 amplifiers. Flown in L/R arrays, two SB730P main bass enclosures sit at the top of each hang powered by two K3 amplifiers. Two additional EAW JF29 speakers are ceiling-hung in the centre of the stage and powered by a pair of K2 amps, while four Sb1000zP subwoofers are positioned on either side of the stage and powered by additional K3s.

Surround speakers are handled by three Powersoft M28Q four channel amplifiers while front fill and under-balcony speakers are assigned to a Powersoft M14D. On stage a pair of EAW monitor wedges are driven by a Powersoft K3.

In the smaller venue, four JF26 enclosures serve as the main L/R system, powered by four Powersoft K2 amps, with a pair of JF10s driven by a K2 providing the centre image. An additional K3 amp powers both the two Sb625zP subwoofers and wedge monitors positioned on stage.

Commenting on the installation in addition to providing his first impression of Powersoft amplifiers, the director of the Art Centre, O Janghak noted, ‘I have used most brands of amplifier before turning to Powersoft but this was the first time I had used a digital amplifier.

‘It is extremely convenient as I can check the status visually — something that I was unable to do with analogue amplifiers. The power output is more than I had expected and it is reassuring that there is no sign of any clipping whatsoever although there are many signals passing through the system,’ he concluded.
