CHINA: Shanghai Media Group Inc-owned Shanghai Oriental TV recently updated its 400 sq-m studio in Pudong by purchasing a Soundcraft Vi1 digital audio console.
The studio is mainly used for the production of small-scale variety shows, and was already home to a Soundcraft B400 analogue mixer. The project team was tasked with budgeting for a new console, and compared the Vi1 with several models from other brands before deciding to further invest in the brand.
An SMG representative said that there were four deciding factors that led to the team opting for the Vi1: ‘It’s world-class DSP processing technology as well as 40-bit floating point processing technology appealed, and its Vistonics interface is easy to use,’ said the representative. ‘Different engineers use the studio all the time, so ease of use is very important. Users can see most of the parameters on Vistonics screens so there is no need to scroll thorough menus, and as well as different functions, the Vi1 associates controls with different colours on the touchscreens and FaderGlow. This makes the operation of the Vi1 very intuitive.’
