Shure provides reliable comms for SAIMS interactive lectures

INDIA: Following last week’s announcement that an Allen & Heath ZED420 had been installed into the Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences’ (SAIMS) Laser Speciality Centre in Indore, the team from local systems integrator Audio Cratz has returned once more to equip the facility with Shure Digital Wireless Systems.

The newly opened facility has been installed with an A/V system that allows students to interact with doctors in real-time as they perform procedures. Live operations can simultaneously be streamed to three lecture theatres, and therefore the centre’s management required a reliable two-way audio talkback system that was free from dropouts and had good sound quality. Sun Infonet Pvt Ltd supplied the integrator with a Shure ULX-D digital wireless system.

Shure Microflex gooseneck microphones were installed at the main 60-seat lecture hall. As doctors demonstrate surgical techniques using endoscopic and conference cameras, the gooseneck mics reportedly allow all students, doctors or delegates in the seminar room to ask the performing doctors questions during the operation.

For the main doctor in the operation theatre a ULXD4 wireless receiver and ULXD1 wireless body pack transmitter with WCE6D earset microphone were supplied. The WCE6D is lightweight and allows the doctor hands free operation, thereby not interfering with the procedure being carried out.

The main seminar speaker also had a dedicated SLX14 instrument wireless system provided comprising of a body pack transmitter, diversity receiver, and WL185 lavalier condenser microphone. Additionally, to help minimise poor audio caused by multiple open microphones and to effectively record sessions, the centre is outfitted with Shure’s SCM810 automatic mixer. Audio Cratz also selected Shure’s DFR audio processor for broadcasting, sound reinforcement and feedback suppression.

‘The premium quality products from Shure have given our students and faculty a unique opportunity to learn in a live environment,’ commented Dr Vinod Bhandari, director of SAIMS Indore. ‘We have successfully conducted a number of seminars after installing Shure audio equipment and are extremely pleased with the outstanding performance.’
