SimplyTech brings Nexo to Paradise Gardens

CHINA: Using initial designs provided by Charlie Law, chief engineer of facilities technical services at Sands China Limited with consultants at Verrex, SimplyTech Limited recently installed a Nexo sound reinforcement system into Paradise Gardens. Located at the centre of the Sands Cotai Central in Macao, Paradise Gardens’ new sound system was primarily designed to enhance a daily fountain show that takes place in front of a 5m tall, 2,500kg polished bronze statue.

A sound reinforcement system consisting of four pairs of Nexo Geo S1230 speakers supplemented by a single RS18 subwoofer were installed to transform Paradise Gardens into ‘a sound and vision spectacular’ during the water shows. The system is powered by three Nexo NXAMP 4x4 amplifiers inserted with NX-ES104 sound cards to facilitate Cobranet capabilities, which are connected to local BSS London Blu 800 processors via a dedicated TCP/IP network. The system is mixed on a Yamaha LS9-32 console and a Shure ULX wireless system is used for entertainers.

The A/V systems in question are synchronised courtesy of Medialon Manager V6 software over a BSS London Blu 800 signal processor for DSP and a Blu 320 as a receiver. Meanwhile, a BGM system has been installed comprising 12 PS8R2 speakers surrounding the fountain area supplemented by six Nexo LS400 subwoofers. These are powered by a number of Nexo NXAMP 4X1 amplifiers. SimplyTech also installed five overhead trusses for all LED and spot lighting fixtures.

SimplyTech project manager Katherine Chan explained that the company’s time on site should have been extended owing to the fact that the floral arrangements had been planted prior to the team being drafted on site.

‘The plants couldn’t be disrupted, so the mobile lift we used to install the overhead rigging, lights and audio had to be driven very slowly from point to point, placing protection under the wheels as it inched forwards,’ Ms Chan explained. ‘The deadline was extremely tight, so we had to work around the clock as a result. The fountain design tended to change on an almost daily basis and this had a knock on effect with our work as the speaker locations had to be changed as a result. Despite the challenges however, we managed to install a very high quality sound system into Paradise Gardens.’

The focal point of Paradise Gardens is the larger-than-life God of Fortune statue designed by the sculptor Sun Jiabin. Boasting 24-carat gold leaf accents, the inspiration behind the statue is to enhance the quality of life and to provide vitality to the community.
