Singapore’s A Cappella Society tours with Mackie DL1608

SINGAPORE: The A Cappella Society of Singapore, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the improvement and promotion of a cappella performance – has purchased a Mackie DL1608 digital mixer for use during tours. The mixer was supplied by distributor Electronics & Engineering Pte Ltd (E&E).
The purchase reportedly follows an evaluation period of several years during which the Society has been seeking a solution that is portable, flexible in application and affordable to add to its inventory of support equipment for the outreach programs. According to technical director Chan Xiang Ju, the iPad-equipped DL1608 was the ideal choice.
‘We were provided with a Mackie DL1608 during the International A Cappella Festival 2012, with compliments of Electronics and Engineering Pte Ltd,’ Mr Chan explained. ‘After this field-test, my team and I were convinced that it was the game-changing technology that they have been hunting for.’
He added: ‘I was astounded by how good the board sounds, especially the Onyx mic pres. It’s just so clean sounding with lots of headroom. The compressors, gates and parametric EQs on every channel sweetened the deal.’
The Society’s mixer has already been put to use with the groups Nanu and Urban Harmony for the Hong Kong A Cappella Festival. ‘It has been extremely reliable especially during the two weeks we toured around Hong Kong,’ Mr Chan enthused. ‘The ability to mix remotely using the iPad is a huge advantage, especially when we cannot dictate where the mixer is to be sited. It’s small physical footprint allows us to have the tools we need at our disposal without worrying about transportation.’
Following the purchase, Gary Goh, E&E deputy managing director, commented: ‘We are extremely pleased that the DL1608 has been able to meet the society’s need for a portable mixing system. The DL1608 has been very well received since we previewed it at the Houses of Worship Technologies Show and it provides users with a whole new level of innovation in the market’.
