Singapore’s Bang Bang opens with L-Acoustics

SINGAPORE: The Royal Room club lounge and neighbouring nightclub Mink closed their doors at the Pan Pacific Singapore in May 2014, but they soon re-emerged with a bang. Marking their reappearance as Match and Bang Bang respectively, both outlets have been brought to prominence with more than a simple re-décor and change of name. Synonymous with distinctive dining concepts which are often off the beaten track, owners Privé Group and Massive Collective have heavily reinvested in a high resolution LED wall, new furnishings and an extensive L-Acoustics audio system for Bang Bang.

Supplied by Sennheiser Asia, the coaxial loudspeaker system comprises eight ceiling suspended 12XT coaxial model speakers, which each combine a 12-inch woofer with a 3-inch compression driver. Performing within a frequency range of 55Hz to 20 kHz, the 380W RMS rated design produces a 90-degree axis-symmetric directivity output together with a smooth tonal response free of any secondary lobes. With the addition of six compatible SB18i and single SB28 floor standing subwoofers, this has been extended down to 25Hz.

The main dance floor and front VIP booth within the 500 sq-m venue, however, is served with L-R arrays of Arcs WiFo cabinets with an additional rear cluster reinforcing the sound for the rear booth seats. Each cluster is flown vertically to generate 90-degrees horizontal dispersion and 45-degrees vertical, thanks to the coupling of one Arcs Focus on top and one Arcs Wide on the bottom.

Flown this way, both Arcs cabinets measure 12-inches and offer a 90-degrees horizontal coverage. On the top, the Arcs Focus covers 15-degrees vertically, but with more SPL and therefore more throw, reaching all the way back to the 1.2m dance platform and the centre of the club. This allows for big sound, while avoiding reflections from the dance-floor ceiling. The lower Arcs Wide provide 30-degrees horizontal coverage, offering down-fill energy for the dance floor and the front booth seats. Altogether, the Arcs WiFo system gives razor-sharp coverage definition while still providing a coherent sound-field, using few elements.

Only two LA4 and three LA8 amplified controllers provide power to the loudspeaker system, with loudspeaker management handled by the LA Network. The DJ booth, which is outfitted with Pioneer players and mixers, receives its monitoring from two 12XTi cabinets and a single SB15M subwoofer.
