Singapore’s TMP-Titans turns to DPA

SINGAPORE: TMP-Titans has been supplying sound, lighting and staging systems to Singaporean businesses and venues for almost 20 years from its unique base in Kampung Bugis.

‘When we invested in L-Acoustics ARCS, Kudos and MTDs sound systems around seven or eight years ago, I must admit that I suffered a few sleepless nights at the time,’ MD and owner Taufiq Suratman openly admits. ‘We wanted to break away from small to medium applications. Therefore, we invested in a sound system that would be better recognised on the technical riders.’

It was an inspired move and it has paid off as TMP-Titans now maintain a healthy clientele for gala nights, concerts, banquets and theatrical performances. ‘Generally, lighting and LED technology pays for itself relatively quickly, but a good sound system takes longer,’ he adds. ‘However, with L-Acoustics speakers there aren’t any compromises in the design and as a result they are always out and will keep on performing for many years.’

Having taken the leap however, the increased demand from bigger clients exposed other equipment in the audio signal chain. One of the company’s new clients is an Indonesian based orchestra led by guest conductor David White (Royal Academy of Music), which required a new microphone solution away from the standard wired and wireless vocal and instrument models that has been its mainstay.

Mr Suratman turned to UniAudio Asia for advice having originally consulted MD Yusof Ahmad in the purchase of the L-Acoustics speaker systems. Following demonstrations and tests, TMP-Titans opted for a large quantity of DPA models including 60 various 4099 models, for specific use with percussion, saxophone, cello, guitar, violin, bass and trumpet, plus 2011C mics for choir use and various stereophonic requirements. DPA 4088 headset microphones are also included.

‘I must admit that I had never really heard of DPA before,’ says Mr Suratman. ‘I’m grateful to Yusof for having introduced them, however, as they surpass the quality of all our other microphones. They possess a highly accurate on-and-off axis response and demonstrate exemplary super-cardioid characteristics, whilst being highly responsive. I also like the slim, sleek designs. The 4099s really combine a finesse with quality performance. I envisaged these new microphones being used for our more select jobs, but our technicians feel more comfortable using them and they tend to go out for more events than they should! Working with UniAudio is like having a partner rather than a supplier as I always know they will be there to lend support, provide spares and advice should I need it. That peace of mind is priceless when you’re in show business.’
