CHINA: The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) has announced that the SMPTE Hong Kong section will host the organisation's Standards Update meeting from March 4th-9th at the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI).

In addition to facilitating face-to-face meetings among SMPTE members, the event will feature a one-day seminar on March 9th named ‘SMPTE Standards Update With a Focus on Compression and Beyond HD.’

The seminar is designed to aid Hong Kong professionals from the broadcast, media, and related sectors in understanding the industry's latest development efforts and technical trends. Presentations will address a number pressing topics along with applications and their development, with a specific focus on UHD (4K and beyond) and the newly released international codec HEVC (H.265).

‘The SMPTE standards team is delighted to be holding meetings in Hong Kong for the first time,’ said Hans Hoffman, engineering vice president at SMPTE. ‘Some 50 experts from many areas will participate, and we will leverage their attendance to present a seminar that highlights current developments in SMPTE and other standards bodies.’

The seminar following the Standards Update will be co-hosted by HKDI and co-organised by Tech-ex Dot Com Ltd. The event is free for professional SMPTE members and students.
