Sound Factory AV completes Greyhound Hotel refurbishment with dampb

AUSTRALIA: Coinciding with a complete refurbishment of the 1,000-capacity bar and nightclub in Melbourne’s Greyhound Hotel, Sound Factory AV has installed a d&b audiotechnik T series line array system supported by J subwoofers into the venue.

Four T10 loudspeakers were chosen by the install company, supported by two T-Sub bass-reflex speakers and four J-Subs placed under the venue’s stage. Sound Factory AV also installed three E12 bass reflex speakers for the DJ, and E8 speakers were placed under the venue’s balcony. Tri Pix LED screens and a Robe Lighting and Chamsys controller were selected to fulfil the bar’s visual requirements.

An 8m x 6m Tri-Pix LED curtain provides a backdrop for the stage, whilst the truss and motor controls for the lighting adapts to the amount of people in the venue by raising and lowering a remote controlled truss.

Sound Factory AV’s Lukas Brock described himself as ‘thrilled’ with the final outcome that the d&b T Series and J subs provided, but attributed the success of the install to the complete A/V system, stating that ‘one item without the other would not have the same effect that the entire system together provides’.

Overcoming the obstacle of working alongside the schedules of other operators working in the venue to completes the refurbishment, Mr Brock considers the new A/V system to be the ‘standout feature’ of the venue, adding, ‘it turned out a lot better than expected’.

Mr Brock described how the hotel owners were ‘surprised and impressed’ with what the installation company achieved in the time allocated. ‘We were working alongside the extremely busy schedules of builders conducting the renovations whilst working around the venue’s operating times. We achieved the system install after long nights working in the venue when no other contractors were there’. Mr Brock added that the owners were glad they waited for a system that was ‘something special’, rather than rushing the installation.
